The Madeline Island Wilderness
Preserve possesses inland forest land for public enjoyment; 2
rustic, un-groomed trails, Casper & Meech, are located
approximately a 1/2 mile walking distance on Airport Rd. from the
ferry. When you reach the exit on Middle Rd. It is approximately a
1 mile walk back to the downtown area. No bicycles please.
Scheduled nature walks throughout the summer months. Winter
enjoyment includes x-country skiing on the groomed Burroughs Trail
on the far end of the Island or the Casper Trail. |

Hiking/Biking |
The island is a wonderful place to
ride bikes. Shoulders on Big Bay Rd. have been extended and
blacktopped. Big Bay State Park and Madeline Island Wilderness
Preserve have hiking trails. Maps available at Chamber of Commerce
office. |

Hunting & Fishing |
Excellent fishing opportunities
available on Lake Superior. Valid State of Wisconsin fishing
license is required. Licenses may be purchased with credit card by
calling 877-945-4236. Bridges and piers are good for springtime
casting, while trolling proves successful during the summer
months. Ice fishing during the winter months. Deer and small game
hunting on the Island are governed by the Wisconsin Department of
Natural Resources. |

Excellent swimming at Big Bay Beach
accessed by either Big Bay State or Town Park. Joni's Beach
located at Memorial Park in downtown La Pointe is a great swimming
beach with picnic area and playground for children. Grills
available at Memorial Park and Big Bay State Park. |
